GOBEYOND Kicked Off on October in Castelldefels

The European Project GOBEYOND (GeO and weather multi-risk impact Based Early warning and response systems supporting rapid deploYment of first respONders in EU and beyonD) had its official kick-off on October 18th-20th, 2023 at the Hotel Playafels in Castelldefels, Barcelona, Spain.

GOBEYOND is a 4-year European Union co-funded innovation action in the framework of the Horizon Europe program which aims to develop and test a Multi-Risk Impact-based Early Warning System (MR-IEWS) that changes the way to tackle weather, climate and geophysical emergencies in Europe, countries of the Union for Mediterranean, and beyond.

The meeting was structured as a 3-days event, and was attended by more than 45 researchers, developers, and practitioners belonging to an alliance of 27 partners (17 Operational CPAs and first responders, 7 RTD Institutions, and 3 SMEs) of 9 countries.

During the first day of the meeting, Prof. Daniel Sempere-Torres of the Center of Applied Research in Hydrometeorology-Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya. BarcelonaTech (CRAHI-UPC), which coordinates the project, gave an overview over the whole project structure, followed by Work Packages leaders' presentations. The content of the presentations included description of tasks, deliverables, and upcoming actions of the respective WPs. In order to facilitate open discussions among attendees, a Q&A session was organized after each presentation.

On the second day of the event, a poster discussion was organized focusing on pilot sites, impact-based MR-EWS and platform tools. The first General Assembly was held on the last day.
